This glass cake stand with dome lid is a small, two-piece covered stand in clear glass: a footed serving plate raised on a short stem, and a glass dome with a knob on top. With the dome in place it stands 17.5 cm high and measures 12 cm across, which makes it a stand for a few special treats rather than a whole cake.

What is included

The stand comes in two pieces: the footed glass plate and its glass dome. The dome rests on the plate and lifts off by its knob, with no seal or fitting between them, and the footed plate can also be used by itself.

Size and capacity

The space under the dome holds 500 ml. In practice that is room for a small pile of truffles, a handful of macarons, a short stack of biscuits, or a few petits fours or mini cupcakes. It sits easily on a tea tray, a side table or a narrow shelf, and it is not designed to hold a full-sized cake.

A footed stand

The plate stands on a short stem with a rounded glass bulb and a broad, round foot, lifting whatever is on it clear of the table. Even a few sweets look more deliberate when they are raised up like this, which is why a footed stand suits a birthday tea, a dessert table or a single place setting.

A clear glass cake dome

The glass cake dome keeps the contents covered and away from dust while leaving them fully on show from every side. Lift it by the knob to serve, then set it back over the plate once everyone has helped themselves.

Afternoon tea, festive tables and everyday treats

For afternoon tea, fill it with coconut sweets, iced petits fours or chocolate truffles. At Christmas it suits a few chocolate biscuits or striped peppermint sweets, and on an ordinary day it can hold a piece of honeycomb, a heap of pecans or a punnet of blueberries. On a wedding or christening table, it keeps a few decorated sweets covered among the flowers.

In the fridge

If a fridge shelf has 17.5 cm of height to spare, the covered stand can go straight in, so strawberries or a couple of cream-topped desserts stay covered and in view until they are served.

A small display dome

Away from the table, it works as a glass display dome for dried lavender, preserved or artificial flowers, a few shells or a small keepsake on a dressing table or bookshelf.

Care

Both glass pieces, the footed stand and the dome, are dishwasher safe. When moving the stand, carry it by its stem and foot rather than by the plate, and lift the dome by its knob.

Good to know

The dome sits on the plate without a seal, so the stand is not airtight. It is sized for small treats; for a whole cake, a larger cake stand will be needed.

A small stage for something lovely

The cake stand displaying cakes and desserts in a cafe and on a laid table

On display

Raised, covered, and easy to reach

The pedestal lifts whatever is inside clear of the table, so a few cupcakes or macarons read as a centrepiece rather than a plate pushed to one side. Lift the dome to serve, replace it between helpings.

The cake stand holding dried flowers, a candle and faux roses in three different rooms

More than dessert

Just as good without the cake

Dried lavender and pampas, a pillar candle, a small arrangement of roses — the same clear dome frames a display as readily as it covers a pudding, on a console table or a mantelpiece.

Covered storage

A glass dome that keeps it covered

At 12 cm across it takes very little shelf space, so strawberries or a portion of dessert can go under the dome and straight into the fridge, then come back out ready to serve.

Helpful Product Information

Frequently Asked Questions

How big is it, and will a whole cake fit?

The stand measures approximately 12 cm across and 17.5 cm high with the dome in position, holding 500 ml. It is a mini cake display stand, sized for a single slice, one or two cupcakes, macarons, truffles or a small dessert, rather than a whole layer cake.

What is included?

Two pieces: one footed glass stand and one removable domed lid with a moulded glass knob. There is nothing else to it and nothing to assemble.

Does the glass dome keep things covered?

The cake dome rests over the stand and helps protect what is underneath from dust while keeping the decoration clearly visible. It lifts straight off rather than sealing, so treat it as a cover rather than an airtight container.

Can I use the stand without the dome?

Yes. The dome lifts away completely by its knob, so the pedestal works as an open cake stand while you are serving and goes back under cover in between. Most people use it both ways over the course of an afternoon.

Will it fit in the fridge?

It should. At around 12 cm across it takes very little shelf space, so strawberries or a portion of dessert can go under the glass dome and straight into the fridge, then come back out ready to serve.

Is the pedestal stable?

The turned stem, rounded centre detail and broad circular foot are shaped to keep the stand balanced when the dome is lifted on and off. Lift by the knob rather than the side of the dome and the base stays where it is.

Can I use it for something other than food?

Yes. The same glass cloche works as a small display dome for jewellery, stones, shells, dried flowers, a short candle or a seasonal arrangement, on a console table, mantelpiece or dressing table.

Is it suitable for an afternoon tea or a celebration table?

It suits both. A covered stand of macarons, petit fours or handmade chocolates reads as a centrepiece rather than a plate pushed to one side, which is why the same piece is used on dessert counters and in cafés as well as at home.
